It took about 26 hours to get from Pittsburgh to St. Andrews via Dublin and Edinburgh. Just FYI, the St. Andrews trip was an add-on after I had already booked my frequent flyer miles from PIT to DUB via Chicago on American Airlines. Not a bad trip, actually. Took a while, but no problems. Flying RyanAir from DUB to EDI was interesting in that they are *very* strict about luggage weights and sizes. The flights are cheap, but everything is an add-on. Have baggage? Limited to 15 Kilo or you pay even more than the basic 15 Kilo rate. Have a golf bag? Woohoo. Another Euro40. Each way. Limited to 20 Kilo. Leave the extra golf balls, etc. at home. You'll save money.
Taxi from EDI to St. Andrews was great.. took me the scenic route at no extra charge. Basic rate was GBP70.
Got into St. Andrews at about 7pm local time. Deposited bags at Hotel (1 Golf Place Hotel). Went to the Old Course and walked down #1 and up #18. (The Old Course is closed on Sundays; many people just walk the Course and take pictures.) I would have done more, but I was fried, having had very little sleep on the flight across the pond.
I had a good Dinner at 1 Golf Place along with a few Belhaven beers. Died in the bed!
Gotta get up early to join the queue of Singles wanting to play the Old Course.
